RESOURCES

College Credit Plus info
Ohio's post secondary program, allowing high school homeschool students to take college classes tuition-free. This is the Ohio Department of Education's page speccific to homeschool students that outlines the application process. Deadlines are usually in early April.

GPA Calculator
This website does a great job explaining how to calcluate GPA without forcing you to input a bunch of classes, so that you can calculate GPA on your own transcript form. As a general rule at CAFE, we would consider a class as honors if the main text is a college-level book.

High School Academic Info
The HSLDA's website has this page dedicated to resources for high school academics, and it answers lots of general questions about homeschooling through high school.

Junior High and High School
Scope and Sequence

As we build out a class offering that will support, encourage and help homeschooling families, we realize that in the upper grades, school choices require a little more strategic planning.

As such, we have come up with a general guideline of what we anticipate our upper level class offerings will be from year to year. Certainly these choices are subject to teacher availability, interest, age breakdown of the student body, etc., but it's a good place to start!

History

We follow the classical history cycle, covering American History during the third year of the cycle. Students can begin with any class in the cycle, but will cover all of history during the four years of high school. We also periodically offer Financial Literacy, U.S. Government, and Economics on a rotating basis to cover those requirements.

We also periodically offer Worldview classes to the junior high and early high school student that will encourage students to apply their Christian worldview  to the current events and trends of thoughts studied in their history courses.

Composition and Literature

For composition and literature at the high school level, we offer a combined class that will loosely co-ordinate to the history topics being studied that year. Books read coordinate to the time period being covered.

Science

Our science courses will start at the junior high level with General Science and Physical Science alternating years. At the 9th/10th grade level, students will alternate between Biology and Chemistry. At the upper grades, we may offer Anatomy and Physiology, Physics, or another science that the families of enrolled students agree upon with the teacher.

Additionally, as needs or opportunities arise, we have additional classes like Forensic Science at the younger levels.

Additional Electives

In addition to the basic academic classes offered above on a regular or period rotating basis, each year will be rounded out with a variety of elective and additional classes These will include foreign language, fine arts, speech, additional science classes, etc.

These classes will be developed each year based on the availability of our teachers and their giftings, and on the desires of the current high school population at the coop.

We collect a survey at the beginning of second semester asking for class requests for the following school year, and then do our best to meet those needs.
